The Victims Must Always be Protected

After weeks of the Republican Congresspeople stalling, the Department of Justice obstructing justice, and the wanna-be king in the White House calling it a hoax, the Epstein Files Transparency Act was finally passed. Recently, 20,000 documents were released. All good, right?

As is MAGA’s true nature, the retaliation sparks are always just under the surface, ready to ignite and explode. When the first wave of pages was released, they included unredacted names of some of Epstein’s victims — in absolute violation of the agreement. Attorneys Bradley Edwards and Brittany Henderson represent hundreds of the victims, and reported the women were horrified at the disclosure.

Many of the victims believed the DOJ  “intentionally exposed their names.” I agree. I agree unconditionally. They retort, You all wanted these files, so here they are. What this administration is doing to the Epstein survivors — in plain sight — is criminal.

The world is now aware that this country harbors pedophiles, those who protect them, and individuals who benefit from their actions. It shouldn't come as a shock that the Epstein list features names from the highest echelons of society, including a prince. Prince Andrew was rightly kicked out of the royal castle and stripped of his titles.

The MAGA minions are doing what they do. The question is, what are we, the People, going to do? What is our responsibility as human beings? What power do we have as voters?

The likes of Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell are part of a billion-dollar adult entertainment industry that sexually exploits the most vulnerable people. The industry has evolved into a sophisticated enterprise that has shed much of its stigma. This sector is an estimated $100 billion global industry with long corporate tentacles.

Well-known names like Playboy and Larry Flynt Publications are joined by lesser-known companies such as MindGeek, Vivid, and AVN. Major corporations like AT&T, Time Warner, DirecTV, Hilton, Sheraton, VISA, MasterCard, and American Express are all profiting from the services they provide to the industry. When you begin to connect the dots between various players — politicians, corporations, religious institutions, and judges — it becomes clearer why victims of sexual assault and exploitation often struggle to obtain justice.

We, the People, are the last line of accountability in our society. Unfortunately, some people have bought into the narrative that victims are responsible for their own situations. This misconception often stems from a lack of understanding about the process of grooming. This means more education is needed if we are to be effective advocates. Grooming is both a psychological and legal term that describes how predators manipulate and build trust with their victims for the sole purpose of sexual exploitation. Predators do not choose confident children or those who speak out. Instead, they specifically select troubled children — those with low self-esteem who are seeking validation from adults.

That’s why it’s been crucial for the Epstein victims to show photos of themselves as mere children when first recruited by Maxwell to provide services to grown men. People only see grown women at the press conferences, not the innocent girls who were targeted as children and adolescents.

Moral corruption often precedes political corruption. This country is spiraling out of control, and we seem to have forgotten what truth, fairness, and justice look like. But can we remember what the protection of our children looks like, and fight like hell for their safety and positive development? Broken children often grow into broken adults. If our children are not safe, no one is safe.
