On Saturday, October 28, 2024, the Foundation for Black Women’s Wellness hosted its 16th Annual Black Women’s Wellness Day. This event provided an informative, inspirational, and empowering experience for all attendees. The day featured a diverse lineup of speakers, workshops, and opportunities to support Black entrepreneurs, showcasing a variety of products and innovations focused on wellness.
The Vendor area offered engaging activities, including wellness exercises and dance sessions, creating an interactive atmosphere. This year’s event featured two keynote speakers: Michele Lopez, a celebrated stylist, designer, speaker, and creator of the Refer Her Movement, and Dash Hudson, an accomplished speaker, author, entrepreneur, and mental health advocate.
Quartz played a crucial role as a co-sponsor, with employees from various departments volunteering and participating in the event. Their presence was complemented by the brand's van and information table, which provided valuable resources to the community.
“I left my first Black Women’s Wellness Day feeling so inspired! It was so incredible to see the work being done by the FFBWW and how much of a difference they have made and continue to make in our communities! I was so inspired by the keynote speakers and just truly felt grateful to be in attendance! I also greatly appreciate the time with our Quartz colleagues and already cannot wait for next year’s event!
“You are not here to match energy; you are here to shift the atmosphere!” – Michele Lopez.
This was my favorite quote from the event, one that I loved so much I put it on a sticky note on my computer as my reminder of how I want to come in and represent every day! I try and bring the energy to shift the atmosphere here at Quartz each day and with every person I encounter. So much power when you change your perspective!” — Nicole Vesely, Quartz Clinical Services Vendor Program Manager
“This conference was electric. Being in a room full of passionate and energized people, working simultaneously to advocate, educate, and accelerate the awareness of Black women's wellness was amazing. This conference provided a catalyst for me personally. New relationships were formed. New collaborations have begun. I left with one simple question, "How can I help?". I shared my sentiments with a colleague and was quickly reminded, that I am a partner, an advocate, and a voice in supporting the atmospheric change to come to ensure all Black women receive the care they need, and the respect they deserve.” — Robin Perry, Quartz Clinical Programs Care Coordinator
The day concluded with a powerful closing session emphasizing the importance of exercising rights within marginalized communities. It was highlighted that the concept of family extends beyond the mother to include partners, children, and extended family members. This holistic approach underscores the mission of Black Women’s Wellness, which aims to support and uplift the entire family unit.
