The Uncivil War is About to Escalate

Here we are — on the brink of a total democratic meltdown. How did we get here? This man-made scheme of pain and suffering for American families? Can the nation save itself before it collapses into political and economic crises? These are questions that our fragile democracy is depending on us to answer.

It has become abundantly clear to most critically-thinking people that the actions of trump and his minions are deliberately creating chaos and uncertainty. This serves as both a distraction so that the majority of us are in survival mode and don’t have the time or the energy to stop the MAGA wrecking ball. It is also a series of tests for trump to see how much authority he can amass before the American people say “Enough is enough” and call a decisive time-out.

The alarming reality of Trump's actions lies in his deliberate manipulation of the situation. He knows exactly what buttons he is pressing. When people feel backed into a corner, their responses can escalate to violence. So far, countless protests, such as the No Kings protests, have mobilized millions in non-violent resistance. However, the legitimate opposition to MAGA policies is being wrongly portrayed as anti-American and domestic terrorism. The trump administration has threatened to deploy "quick reaction forces" to all 50 states. This is a dangerous pretext for declaring a state of emergency, which could pave the way for trump to establish a permanent authoritarian regime.

This country has seen the erosion of democratic principles and protocols. It is seeing all three branches of government bend a knee to trump. The government shutdown is now the longest in history. Instead of acting like responsible public servants, Republican lawmakers are on an indefinite vacation, avoiding town halls and, most of all, avoiding the release of the Epstein files. Speaker Mike Johnson has refused to swear in Arizona Congresswoman Adelita Grijaval, whose vote will force the Epstein files to be released.

Our own government is being pitted against its people. Critical government offices are closed, and basic services have stopped. Food stamps, WIC payments, childcare payments, and energy assistance are about to come to an abrupt halt. The dictator has warned that Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid are  ‘Going to Be Gone’ if the Democrats don’t submit to his will.

Democratic mayors, governors, and attorneys general have been forced to file a flurry of lawsuits against the trump regime. Democrats and Blue states are not the only ones to feel trump’s wrath. His retribution campaign is aimed at anyone who goes against his divisive politics. Even if trump loses, he still wins. The bully has used them as public examples and forced his so-called adversaries to defend their reputations. Universities, corporations, elected officials, military brass, law firms, and others are all in trump’s crosshairs.

The world has watched in awe as trump has decimated the government, ignored the courts, pardoned criminals, extorted millions from universities and corporations, launched military actions without approval, imposed irrational tariffs that affect global trade, used the office to enrich the trump family fortune, turned the military on innocent people, and much more.

We’re still asking questions like “Is this legal?” or “How do we stop this sociopath?” This means trump is still moving, and we are losing more ground. It means that the MAGA has more time to inflict pain and suffering upon us. The last ten months of this regime have shown us its depths of corruption and cowardice, and it can go deeper.

While nervous families prepared to humble themselves to get help from food pantries, trump was partying and bragging about his gaudy toilet in the White House. The rest of us must take a sobering look at where we are and what it will take to reverse course. We will have a lot to sort through as we organize for a struggle that determines the democracy we want for the country. Let’s take a deep breath and intensify the work necessary to create a world that puts the development and welfare of people over the concentration of wealth and power for the oligarchs.
