Trump’s Tax Plan Will Devastate AANHPI Communities
NCAPA issued the following response to the House of Representatives passing the president's sweeping domestic policy bill:
President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill represents the most extreme act of wealth transfer in modern U.S. history. This bill hands billions of dollars to the ultra-wealthy while pulling the rug out from under working families across the country.
| The passage of the president’s tax plan means that millions will lose access to food, healthcare, and stability. The impact will be devastating and immediate for AANHPI families. This plan slashes Medicaid, putting 11.8 million people at risk of losing their health coverage. It guts $300 billion from SNAP, threatening food access for low-income families and eliminating school meals for 1 in 5 children. Disability services, pediatric mental health care, and prescription drug coverage will all suffer from deep cuts. And the tax plan does all of this while granting an average $389,000 tax break to the top 0.1% of earners.
This legislation completely dismantles the safety net that so many depend on, all so that the richest Americans can continue growing their wealth. Meanwhile, it does nothing to address the cost of living crisis, economic inequality, or racial disparities. Instead, it doubles down on a failed trickle-down agenda that leaves our communities behind, over and over again. We are outraged. Our communities have always faced policies that attempt to silence us and strip us of dignity, and we have always organized in response. We will continue to tell the truth about who this bill helps and who it harms. We will keep fighting for a future where everyone has what they need to live a safe and healthy life – no matter their income, zip code, or immigration status. We call on everyone to speak up, stand together, and reject the idea that tax cuts for the wealthy supersede the importance of meeting basic human needs. We will not forget who made this decision, and neither will our communities. “Today, Congress passed a tax plan that rewards billionaires and corporations while gutting the essential programs millions of families rely on to survive. This is not fiscal responsibility; it’s a direct assault on working people and communities of color,” said Gregg Orton, National Director at NCAPA. “Make no mistake: this bill sentences millions of families to instability, hunger, and irreparable harm – with severe repercussions for generations to come.” ### Based in Washington, D.C., the National Council of Asian Pacific Americans is a coalition of 44 national Asian Pacific American organizations.
