2024 Madison Black Chamber of Commerce Grand Opening at the Hub: Economically Uplifting
By Jonathan Gramling
While the Urban League of Greater Madison has built a state-of-the art economic development facility — the Black Business Hub — it will be the organizations, businesses and services that locate within The Hub that determine the overall effectiveness of the facility.
One of those organizations is The Madison Black Chamber of Commerce under the direction of Camille Carter. The Black Chamber provides information, training and advocacy for its businesses from the African Diaspora and beyond. Through an ARPA grant provided by the state of Wisconsin. The Black Chamber has expanded its reach and services.
On May 22, 2024, the Black Chamber held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its offices on the second floor of The Hub. Several hundred people came through the open house. Godwin Amegashie opened the program with a libation ceremony to remember those who had been instrumental in the Black Chamber’s formation and growth and had passed away. Congratulatory speeches were given by WI Dept. of Administration Secretary Kathy Blumenfeld, Madison Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway, Urban League Board Member Derrick Smith, and Black Chamber Board Member Patrina White.
With the community support exhibited at the Open House, the Madison Black Chamber of Commerce has a solid foundation to assist the formation and expansion of African Diaspora businesses in the greater Madison area and beyond.
