This Judicial Seat is Not for Sale
Wisconsin, you did it! It was so beautiful to watch those returns come in and teach the muskrat a lesson: you cannot buy our votes, our state Supreme Court seat or our democracy. The GOP was trying to buy but Wisconsin voters were not selling. The decisive victory was the right octane to fuel the anger of those turning out for the April 5 Hands Off! mobilizations that happened across the country.
Susan Crawford handily beat Brad Schimel to gain the hotly contested seat on the Wisconsin State Supreme Court. Elon Musk and his cronies dropped over $20 million in the state. Schimel even got an endorsement from 47. All that dead weight must have felt like an albatross around poor Brad’s neck. Crawford can comfortably hold her seat for the next decade.
Voters in other states and municipalities must stay ready to crush these clowns at the polls—that’s where the ultimate electoral showdowns will happen. One defeat will not be enough to stop their dismantling of the government and their looting of the public purse. We will have to come big and bold, matching their vile energy and actions.
The Hands Off! mobilizations reflected mass dissatisfaction, and that is the first step. Now it’s time to organize targeted personal disruption and the interruption of capital. This is what gets their attention. The muskrat is a billionaire, but losing one third of your company’s value in one quarter is not a good sign. According to reports on Tesla’s financial status, the big dip makes Tesla one of the worst performing stocks in the S&P 500 this year.
That would be a good lesson for Mr. Musk if the economic chaos only affected his company. In a global economy, there is a ripple effect that is not constrained to one company or one country. The markets across the world are impacted, as are their citizens. Even Elon Musk’s personal net worth has plummeted. He’s reluctantly admitted it's "costing me a lot to be in this job." Yeah, that’s the pain The People will be inflicting on you.
The world is getting a crash course on tariffs and tariff wars, on who wins and who loses. Needless to say, consumers are always caught in the economic crossfire. Companies will cut their losses by passing on any losses to us. Their profits must always be maximized by any means necessary.
For those of us in the U.S., let’s brace ourselves for more impact. I suggest we implement our own family austerity plan to blunt the impending recession. Don’t buy anything you don’t absolutely need and start building a reserve for emergency issues.
In a recent Saturday Night Live skit, Musk played by comedic actor Michael Myers, admitted trying to buy the judicial seat in Wisconsin. Realizing his mistake, he proclaimed, “ I should have just bought Wisconsin!"
Yes, their side is learning to course-correct just like our side. This war is just getting started and The People can win. We must be organized, focused and strategic in our actions. We can stop the hemorrhaging of our democracy. Yes, we can.
