The Path to Self-Fulfillment: Part XIV–  Moving Towards a More Fulfilling Life

A continuation of our series on personal evolution, truth, and accountability.

By Andrew Gramling and Harry Petsanis, Corporate Consultant, Owner of Accountability Coaching

Accountability and happiness are synonymous. I have never met anyone who complains, blames, and points fingers who is happy. The reason unhappy people never make progress is because they never take accountability. If you don’t own your mistakes, poor choices, and decisions, how do you ever expect to have the proper perspective to change them?

Take a step back and look around at everyone you know and have ever known. If you are honest and objective, you will not find one person who refused to take ownership of their life that was truly happy. The reason most people spend their time and lives focusing on others is because they do not want to face the one person that’s the cause of all of their problems, and the solution to a better life themselves. Subconsciously most people realize that they are their biggest problem, but they refuse to consciously admit that to themselves because they do not want to put in the work that is required to change their circumstances, or because their own focus on pride and ego will prevent them from acknowledging the truth.

A better life starts and ends with accountability. Once you take complete ownership of every single aspect and facet of your life you have increased your odds astronomically of improving your situation. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. If you spent your life complaining, blaming, and pointing fingers at everyone else, how in the world do you expect your outcome to change? It isn’t an issue of time, effort, or energy. It takes more time, effort, and energy to blame others than it does to fix yourself.

People will dive headfirst into causes believing that will find them some semblance of peace and comfort. It is impossible to find either until you resolve the issues that reside within you. Resolving those issues doesn’t just require accountability, it demands it. It also demands consistency. Taking accountability once does not fix a lifetime of issues. A lifetime of happiness demands a lifetime of accountability.
