Business on the Grow: Fathers Heart Home Care
By Isaiah Mielke, Fathers Heart Home Care, Supportive Home Care Services
- 1.What inspired you to start your business? And why?
I was inspired to start Fathers Heart Home Care because of my father. When I was nine years old, he was working as a landscaper and became a paraplegic after a 30-foot fall from a tree. My family struggled to find compassionate, reliable in-home care. Experiencing neglect and inconsistency firsthand showed me the gaps that exist in this industry. I started this business to ensure families receive dependable, dignified care from people who truly have a heart for serving others.
- What has it been like owning and growing as a black owned business in Madison?
Owning and growing a Black owned business in Madison has been both challenging and extremely rewarding. As a young Black entrepreneur, I take pride in building a company that competes with larger, established home care agencies while also creating meaningful representation in our community. Today, over 50% of our nearly 60 caregivers in the field are Black, which is something I am incredibly proud of. It is not just about business growth, it is about creating opportunity, setting a high standard, and showing what is possible.
- What are some of the challenges you face and how do you push through them?
One of the biggest challenges has been managing rapid growth. Expanding quickly often means long hours in the office while building strong systems and maintaining quality care. Balancing that level of responsibility with my personal life has not always been easy. I push through by staying focused on the mission, building the right team around me, and reminding myself why I started in the first place.
- How has your business changed or grown since starting?
Since opening to the public on June 4th, 2025, we have grown from serving just one client to supporting nearly 50 clients within eight months. On the caregiver side, we began with only two caregivers and have expanded to employing just under 60. This growth has allowed us to create meaningful job opportunities while increasing access to quality care in our community.
- What helped you grow most? Mindset, products or customers?
What has helped us grow the most has been mindset and mission. From day one, we were committed to providing consistent, family driven care in a market where many clients, especially those on Medicaid funding programs, have been underserved. We serve a large Medicaid population and have experience advocating for fair reimbursement rates to ensure sustainability. That allows us to staff highly skilled, experienced caregivers and deliver the quality of care families deserve no matter their income level.
6. How does the current market feel for your business?
The market right now feels strong and steadily growing, especially as the baby boomer generation reaches an age where more in home support is needed. Most seniors want to age in place, staying in the comfort and familiarity of their own homes rather than moving into facilities. At the same time, we are also seeing an increased need for respite services for adolescents with disabilities, as families look for trusted providers to give them relief and consistent support. Overall, the demand for reliable, compassionate home care across all age groups continues to grow.
7. How important has community been for your growth?
Community has been extremely important to our growth. As we build the reputation of Fathers Heart Home Care, we have been intentional about being more than just a for profit service provider. We value genuine community engagement and regularly partner with organizations like the Ability Resource Center and local senior living facilities to host events such as bingo, Zumba, and holiday decorating contests. For us, growth is not just about numbers, it is about building trust, relationships, and a positive presence in the community we serve.
8. What’s one thing you want people to know about your business that they might not know?
One thing people may not know is that I have promoted God as the CEO of Fathers Heart Home Care since day one. Our company was built on faith, integrity, and service before anything else. We have remained debt free while growing responsibly and are on track to reach seven figures in revenue within our first year. At the core of it all, our foundation is purpose driven, not profit driven.
