Gag Orders are Insufficient — and Laughable
I can’t even say that trump’s recent win in Iowa was a wake-up call. He has given the country so many wake-up calls that it’s suffering from insomnia. The Iowa win puts trump closer to the seat of power that eluded him in 2020. As in 2016, he is not being taken as a serious contender for the White House. So, who’s delusional — us or trump?
There are some who think trump can’t campaign while defending himself against some 91 criminal charges. Wrong. He thumbed his nose at the Republican debates while his opponents spent hours prepping for their fifteen minutes of fame. He even urged the Republican Party to stop “wasting time and money” pushing his weak competitors before the voters.
There are some who think trump’s fate is sealed because he’s a disgraced candidate. His vices were exposed before he became president, during his presidency and after the presidency. His poll numbers are strong as ever. There are trumpers who liken him to Jesus Christ, having to bear the heavy cross of his envious detractors.
Depending on what month it is, some polls have trump leading incumbent President Joe Biden. He has consistently been the Republican frontrunner, a fact that he loves to share with his adoring fans. Biden’s fans must be in hiding because MAGA-ites control the daily narrative.
Reassuring his loyal base, trump is prepared to put some action behind his pledge, “I’m your retribution.” His threats and bullying do get results. There are not too many people from elected officials to financiers who want to tangle with trump — even when they’re on the right side of the law.
Sadly, this seems to be the very side of trump that drives his fan base wild. They see it as standing up — and it is, standing up for his selfish, greedy interests. Whether he’s calling Heidi Cruz ugly (wife of Congressman Ted Cruz) or baiting his zealots to launch credible threats against Judge Arthur Engoron and his law clerk, trump has proven that he’s always ready to insult, demean and attack anybody at any time. All must bow before The Donald. Or pay a price.
The unapologetic bullying by trump didn’t start with his political career; he’s been a bully since birth. It’s in his DNA. His ruthless real estate mogul father sent him to military school at a critical time in his young development to guarantee a personality suited for capitalist aggression. The grooming he received at New York Military Academy solidified trump’s love for dominance by any means necessary.
