Historic Elections Continue
The smoke has cleared from Dane County’s most recent electoral contest on April 4th and overall, it was an encouraging one. As with everything else in life, there were some steps forward and steps backwards. And once more, our community made some historic choices.
I will begin with Julia Arata-Fratta being elected mayor of Fitchburg. She is the first Latino mayor in Fitchburg’s history, following in the footsteps of former Fitchburg Mayor, Frances Huntley-Cooper, the first Black mayor of Fitchburg some 32 years ago.
Arata-Fratta was a “comeback kid,” in a way. Her opponent, Randy Udell, was the Fitchburg Common Council president and had been endorsed by the Democratic Party establishment with the Dane Dens, U.S. Representative Marc Pocan, Fitchburg Mayor Aaron Richardson, four current alderpeople and a host of notables supporting Udell. -- READ MORE
