11th Feria Latina de la Salud
Health for the People
If it is ever found that Dane County’s Latino community
has better health indicators than Latino communities in
other parts of the community, one would not have to look
far to identify some of the key factors. For the past 11 years,
the Latino Health Council has sponsored the Feria Latina
de la Salud, which brings health care providers together
with Latino children and families for a morning of fun
health education.
The 2009 edition of the health fair was held August 15
at the Oregon Union Sports Club. As families moved
among the exhibits in the large indoor soccer field,
speakers talked about different health issues and public
officials or their representatives addressed the crowd. Dr.
Beth Potter and LaMovida radio station were honored for
their efforts in facilitating health initiatives in the Latino
community.
The Latino Health Fair is a wonderful way for children
and their parents to get ready for the coming school year
and the winter season beyond.
