Nichols receives honorary degree
       PHILADELPHIA, PA — CGFNS International CEO Barbara L. Nichols (DHL, MS, RN, FAAN) is one of ten
outstanding individuals who received honorary degrees from Drexel University on June 13, 2009.
       Dr. Nichols has served as chief executive officer for over a decade, coming to CGFNS International in
1998. Before coming to CGFNS, she had previously served as past president of the American Nurses
Association, was professor of nursing at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Nursing, was director of
nursing for the Wisconsin Area Health Education Center System and was secretary of the Wisconsin Department
of Regulation and Licensing.
       “The CGFNS International board of trustees recognizes the significant contributions Dr. Nichols has made to
the nursing profession in the United States and abroad,” said Marcia Rachel, president of CGFNS International.
“We commend her accomplishments.”
       “Dr. Nichols brings deep knowledge and collegiality to her role as the chief executive officer of CGFNS
International,” said Gloria F. Donnelly (PhD, RN, FAAN), dean and professor of the College of Nursing and Health
Professions at Drexel University. “I cannot think of a more effective ambassador of U.S. nursing to graduates of
foreign nursing programs and to schools around the world. The College of Nursing and Health Professions at
Drexel University is proud to have her receive an honorary degree at our 2009 commencement.”
       Dr. Nichols’ honorary degree from Drexel University will be bestowed upon her during the ceremony
honoring graduates of the College of Nursing and Health Professions, Goodwin College of Professional Studies
and School of Public Health at Drexel University.
