Ride the Drive in Madison
Mayor Dave Cieslewicz joined Trek President John Burke and community and city leaders on
May 14 to launch “Ride the Drive.”
Ride the Drive is an exciting new community event on August 30 that will transform some
of         Madison’s streets into a public promenade. During the event, roads will be closed to
vehicle traffic, allowing participants to bike, skate or walk through some of Madison’s signature
streets.
“Madison is proud to be a bicycle and pedestrian friendly city. Not only does it encourage
healthy lifestyles for our citizens, but the biking industry also contributes millions of dollars to our
local economy,” Mayor Dave Cieslewicz said.
“Ride the Drive is a great event for a great city,” Trek President John Burke said. “Ride the
Drive is going to give citizens all over Madison the opportunity to either ride their bicycles, walk,
rollerblade or run throughout the streets of one of the most beautiful cities in the country.”
The mayor and others also took a preview ride through part of the Ride the Drive route. During the
event in August, a 6-mile loop will be open for participants from 8:00a.m. to 2:00p.m.
Joining the mayor on the ride were Dawn Crim (l-r), Irving Chung, Russell Betts and Ray
Harmon. — From the City of Madison Mayor’s Office
