Recess Recess
By Karla Mora

Fast foot steps
Woosh
Kids ran outside
to play.
I ran outside and
throw my sweater.
I don’t care
Where I throw it
When I pick it up
is all muddy and dirty.

Fast foot steps
Woosh
I see some boys
playing soccer
playing football
playing other games.

Fast foot steps
Woosh
I see some girls
playing in the tire swings
Swinging on the swings.

Fast foot steps
Woosh
I see some people talking
And running around.
Ring Ring Ring
The whistle blows
we must go back
to our class room.
I LOVE RECESS

Fashion Disaster
by Alexandra Klabacka

I cut, cut, cut my clothes.
My mama says why oh why?
I tell my mama what I want to do.
My mama says ok, ok, ok.
I sew, sew, sew.
My dada says what oh what?
I say what I want to do.
My dada says ok, ok, ok.
I tie, tie, tie my clothes.
My sissy says hey, hey, hey!
I tell her what I want to do!
My sissy says ok, ok, ok.
I go to my closet.
I say my oh my.
I tell my mama what I want to do.
My mama says ok, ok, ok.
But not to day, day, day.
But mama, but mama!
Don’t but mama, mama me!
Fine, fine, fine.
I go up stairs.
My aunty comes up and says no oh no.
I tell her what I want to do!
She says ok, ok, ok.
I throw, throw, throw my clothes.
My granny says honey oh honey.
I say what I want to do!
My granny says ok, ok, ok.
I go down stairs.
My mama says what oh what I’m I gonna do.

My sister Andrea, and me Lissette
by Lissette Navarro

My sister loves me
My sister hugs me.
When I get home from school she
smiles,
She runs and hugs me.
My sister loves me,
My sister hugs me.

Yo y mi hermana jugamos aqui,
y jugamos alla.
Mi hermana, mi hermana
Yo la quiero mucho.
Me abraza y me abraza
Asta que me caigo al piso.

My sister loves me,
My sister hugs me.
My sister Andrea and me,Lissette
My sister talks and talks
And if I am not listening
She sounds like
A buzzing bee
My sister Andrea and me, Lissette

Me and my Grandma
By Jo-Beena

She’s kind.
She tells me to do good
in school.
She’s funny.
She cooks pho.
She lets me go outside.
Me and my Grandma
Like playing the Wii game
She presses the button. Strap on
wrist,
serves the ball we always win
the game.
We talk about school and fighting
and family, she tells me to tell
my mom and dad to stop fighting.
We walk outside and see chickens,
birds, rabbits.
We go to super Wal-Mart,
buy meat to eat.
We play tag—- you’re it.
We run run on the wet grass.
She plays with me
a lot of the time.
She helps me when I’m sad and mad.
She watches news with me
and Hmong movies.
She cooks meat and egg rolls.
She likes going outside in the summer and spring
She likes going to people’s house
because it is boring in the house.
We read together and she likes
My reading.
I love my grandma.

Evening Rain
by Cassidy Jo Gerothanas

Falling down
Falling down
Splashing in Puddles
Dark clouds
Plastering the Sky
Falling down
Falling down
Watching out
My window Beautiful
Glistening drops
Drifting from
A dull grey sky
Falling down
Falling down
In the morning
It’s not falling
Down anymore
Smell the earth
Smell the earth
The new moist
Soil spreads a
New scent around
Smell the earth
Smell the earth
Gentle jewels
Drifting through
The air, falling
Falling everywhere.

Mother Bowl
by Elizabeth Golden

Mani plays with my Grandmother’s bowl
Banging dented metal on smooth wood
My grandma Fay chops chops chops in her liver bowl
Brought from an old world an old way
Beat the eggs with a fork stiff whites
Mani plays with my Grandmother’s bowl
Banging dented metal on smooth wood
My mother chops juicy tomatoes knife against finger the mother way
Thud thud thud they hit smooth wood
Salad grabbed with hands an old way in a new world
Mani plays with my Grandmother’s bowl
Banging dented metal on smooth wood
How will I be mother to this bowl?
How will I keep old ways in a new world?
