16th Annual AKA Men Who Cook Fundraiser
The Key to a Woman’s Heart
It was an incredible turnout at the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority’s
16th Annual Men Who Cook Scholarship Fundraiser at the Fitchburg
Community Center on March 6. Over 300 people packed the center to
sample the culinary offerings of 21 men who sure do know how to cook.
There was fair Arroz Con Gradules and Guineos Verdes en Escabeche
to South African Vegetable Stew, Seafood Gumbo and Barbeque Lamb
with the likes of Caramel Chip Cookies and Caramel Apple Cheese Cake
served up for dessert. It was so good that even the cooks couldn’t
resist a taste of each other’s food after all the guests had gone through.
This year’s cooks were Dwight Artis, Vince Carey, Andre Chisea,
Mayor Dave Cieslewicz, Jon Gramling, James and Jameson Gray, Jon
Hammerberg with Chuck Billings, David Hart, James Howard, Juan
José López, James Lynch with Jamin Brown, José Madera, José
Maldonado, Howard Muhammad, Jamil Muhammad, MMSD
Superintendent Dan Nerad, Emanuel Scarbrough, Al Swan and Sam
Thomas.
While awards were made for the Judges’ and People’s Choice in
Entré, Side Dish and Dessert, the important winners will be the
graduating high school seniors to whom the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority
will award scholarships this spring. And everyone is a winner when
young people develop their talents and skills and one day give back to
the community that helped raise them.
