Heart & Soul

By Jonathan Gramling
Since 1977, the Madison Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority has been making an impact on Madison’s African
American community and beyond. And since 1995, it has held the Heart & Soul Scholarship Fundraiser through which it has
granted thousands of dollars to graduating African American high school seniors to assist them with their college education.
On February 21, the 14th Annual Heart & Soul Fundraiser was held in the Promenade Hall of the Overture Center for the Arts.
With the tremendous growth in the local Delta Sigma Theta sororities in recent years, it appears easy to fill Promenade Hall with
sorors and guests. As DJ Chill spun the classics, both old and new, the partiers filled the dance floor and filled the hall with
laughter, music and conversation.
And the sorors looked fine as red and white predominated in their beautiful evening gowns. Throughout the year, the Deltas
can be seen working on health care issues and voter registration in addition to working with the children. And this night belonged to
the Deltas. The Deltas sure know how to throw a stylish and memorable evening. And to think it was all for the children. What an
elegant way to raise money for a worthy cause.
