Lighting up energy savings

• Did you know that most twisty Compact Fluorescent Lamps or CFL light bulbs will last about eight years? This
is eight times the one year lifetime of an average incandescent light bulb. Some CFLs now last even longer or
10 years. Switch to CFL light bulbs. This means fewer burned out bulbs and less often trying to reach a burned
out bulb while standing on a chair or ladder. You also save money from your electric utility bill.
• Did you know that a Compact Fluorescent Lamp or CFL uses about one quarter of the energy and provides the
same amount of light? If you replace a 60 watt incandescent light bulb with a 15 watt CFL, you will get the same
amount of light and you will save $45 over the life of the CFL bulb. Every watt reduction saves you $1. If you
replace a 100 watt incandescent light bulb with a 23 watt CFL, you will save $77.
• Did you know that if you replace every incandescent light bulb in your residence with a CFL, you will save $10
per month? That’s $120 saved each year on your electric bill. You can begin to save money right away by
replacing incandescent light bulbs with CFLs before the incandescent bulb burns out. Using incandescent light
bulbs is so wasteful; you shouldn’t wait until they burn out. You should replace them.
• Did you know that the average house has about 40 light bulb sockets? Mobile homes and 2-4 unit apartment
buildings have about 30 sockets per unit and a smaller apartment in a larger apartment building has about 20
light bulbs and most of these are energy hog incandescent light bulbs.
