Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority celebrates 100
Founded on the campus of Howard University in Washington,
DC on January 15, 1908, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority is the
oldest Greek-letter organization established by African American
college-trained women. While the celebration started last year,
thousands of AKA members descended on Washington,
D.C. and the Howard University campus to kick-off the 2008
portion of the centennial celebration, whose theme is
“Celebrating Our Past, Serving Our Community, Honoring Our
Sisterhood,” in remembrance of the sorority’s commitment
to community service.
